In third grade, we will continue to reinforce the social skills that students need to be successful both academically and socially. I feel very strongly that before any learning can take place in our classroom, all students must feel safe and comfortable in our community. An important aspect of building that positive, collaborative culture is beginning each school day with a morning meeting. During this time, we will sit together in a circle on the rug, greet each other, and have the opportunity to share with one another. This will reinforce social skills like listening and being respectful, and it will allow each child to start the day feeling noticed and appreciated.
I believe it is important for children to feel invested in establishing the expectations for our classroom, so we will create our "classroom rules" together and each of us will sign, agreeing to follow those rules. My main goal with behavior is to teach my students the tools they need to manage themselves. Everybody makes mistakes and part of growing up is learning that our actions have consequences. With that said, each day at St. Timothy's is a new day. I want my students to come to school everyday with the same opportunity to make the right choices and I will always be there ready to guide them, teaching the importance of being kind, trying your best, and being yourself.
